Hey guys! As you've noticed, I've lost interest in posting on here. In all honestly I'm not so fond of this site as a blogging platform, so I've sinced moved over to Wordpress. It has a LOT of great capabilities and I really like it over there!

You'll also noticed I've changed our business name from Knockout Vintage Clothing to Goldmine Trash. We used Knockout for a decade but things have changed so much since then. We started out specializing in high end 40s and 50s dresses, but as their supply dwindled and demand for 60s/70s/80s increased; our focus shifted to that instead.

Starting this year, we'll be selling it all - but only what we feel are the BEST items from each decade! High and low end alike, with only the cutest prints, funnest details, etc. Our site is very close to launching (still sorting out the shopping cart issue). Until then, we love Etsy! Their pricing is very reasonable, and their policies very ethical. Plus, there's so many amazing sellers on there! Do support them.

NAME CHANGE!

Knockout Vintage Clothing is now called Goldmine Trash! I'll be updating our logos on our blog/social networking sites, etc. soon. But until then, new name = new Etsy shop. Check it out!

Only a few things are up so far. I've been shooting outdoors (natural daylight is always best for capturing details, imo), but it's been FREEZING in Dallas lately! My hands got too numb to press camera buttons. So until it warms a little don't expect too much too soon : P. Things will be back in full swing soon though.

I'm going back to selling more 40s/50s dresses, but have loads of great 60s/70s/80s/90s goodies to list as well.

Please show some love and add our shop to your favorites. If you're a seller on there as well, I promise to return the favor!

Dear Knockouts,

Raise your hand if you're loving the latest Nylon issue! Creepers, bleached out clothing, metal hardware... I can get into this. Reminds me of my punk rock youth. Indeed, I was one of those over-accessorized punk chicks in high school. Liberty spiked hair, as many spiked and studded jewelry as I could layer on my neck and wrists, jackets patched and studded to oblivion, and plenty of fishnets and creepers. Maybe I'll scan pics? To this day I'm way into the music. But prefer a more toned down look : ). Anyway...

What are your favorite trends for fall?

PS, With summer almost over Knockout Vintage Clothing is listing on EBay again! Busting out lots of cute stuff that's late summer/early fall friendly. And everything ships FREE within the US. Can't go wrong with that.

Hello Knockouts, long time no post!

No, I haven't abandoned this blog. I've just been insanely busy lately. So much has gone on, and I have SO MUCH to tell you guys. It's insane.

For starters, Knockout Vintage Clothing is getting a total image overhaul for the fall! Since summer is a historically DEAD time for businesses, I'm taking advantage of the downtime to work on this. I'm changing up the color scheme, fonts, hiring new models, will be putting more effort into the styling, etc. etc. It's really overwhelming, but I know it'll be worth it.

For starters, what do you think of this logo?

So many little details like this to work on!

So what else is going on? I'm working on a couple websites for launch this fall - one dedicated to on-trend vintage, and one upscale classic one. REALLY excited about that because EBay just isn't what it used to be. It's too heavily saturated with crappy sellers, and a recent report shows EBay has lost 1/3 of it's traffic in the past year. 33% fewer viewers in just one year. That's INSANE!

So yes... websites, more in person sales, maybe more Etsy sales, whatever it takes. I'm still selling on EBay for now, but am hoping to phase them out within a year or so : ).

I got back into wardrobe styling and am currently working with a local alt. erotica company, Visual Vixens. You'll be hearing a LOT about them soon! I like their company vision - they're all about alt. models, but the nudity is light partial to implied only, opposed to blatant porn. And unlike certain other companies, their contracts are NON-EXCLUSIVE! They treat their girls better all around, so I'm honored to be working with them : ).

I've also been doing tfp's/tfcd's to build up my styling portfolio. That's been a lot of fun!

Knockout Vintage Clothing is doing a fashion show on Oct. 11th too! It's a charity benefit, so if you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, go to the Church that night. It'll be fun. More info on that soon too.

Anyhow, lots of blogs to catch up on, so enough writing for now.

LIL' MISS CUTIE DYNAMITE - THE INTERVIEW!

Andrea Mota is one of the best dressed ladies I know, so I was thrilled when she took her fashion flair to the next level by launching Cutie Dynamite! This accessories line is one of the best on Etsy, renown for it's high quality; and has managed to catch the eyes of celebrities such as Courtney Love (who even gave her a plug in her Myspace blog). A favorite of pinup girls and Harajuku types alike, her designs are incredibly girly yet edgy, and have a distinct vintage inspired look.

With no further adieu, here's our exclusive interview with Andrea herself:

OK, GIRLFRIEND. TELL US WHO'S BEHIND ALL THIS CUTE STUFF.

Hey, I'm Andrea, the lady behind Cutie Dynamite. I live in Northern California with my boyfriend John and our pug Elvis. Our lives revolve around music and anything DIY!
I craft out of our extra bedroom, which is also a band practice room/recording studio for my boyfriends Psychobilly band, The Tabaltix. It also happens to be exploding with fake flowers, feathers, and anything pink....somehow we make it all work!

WHEN DID CUTIE DYNAMITE START?

December of 2007. I didn't have a job for about 6 months, and got really bored, so I began hoarding pretty ribbons, feathers and vintage jewelry!

I made so many fabulous things that I couldn't realistically wear all on my own (apparently that IS possible), so I got talked into selling at a Holiday fair, and that's how it all began!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?

For me it's ALL about colors.... and sparkly stuff of course!

A few things that get me inspired: fabulous old ladies in hats and gloves and too much makeup, decadent desserts, sweets in general, watching period movies and geeking out on the costumes, vintage hats and jewelry, and going on vacation helps....a lot.

IS IT TOUGH BEING A DIY'ER WHEN ONLINE SELLING VENUES ARE FLOODED WITH COPYCATS AND SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS? WHAT SETS CUTIE DYNAMITE APART AND KEEPS YOU AHEAD OF THE GAME?

I wouldn't say it's tough, it is one of the things that I enjoy most. It can be very trying at times though! Yes, there are a lot of those, but all you can do is keep on doing your thing, and try not to get deterred. For Cutie Dynamite, I use the best materials available to me. I have a very high standard that I set for myself in general, so that helps a great deal. Other than that, I just try to make things that I know I would fall in love with, buy, and look fabulous in!

WHAT'S CUTIE DYNAMITE'S BIGGEST MILESTONE TO DATE?

Honestly, it's the little things that make me feel accomplished in respect to my line. Having brides request that I make them custom pieces for their weddings is very flattering. Being blogged about is always great.

Having gorgeous customers as well as celebrity customers makes it all worthwhile!

ANY PLANS TO TAKE THIS TO A LARGER LEVEL?

Sure! I'm open, really. If it happens it happens, I know I am doing my part to move things along. I just want to enjoy doing this for as long as possible!

Head wear is still big and I'm loving it. The fact that I can now find almost anything with a bow on it has me going broke!

SHE LIVES!!!

Whoops! I'm so sorry for the lack of bloggage these past few weeks, and for not commenting on y'alls blogs the way I normally do.

For most of my life I've been a pack rat (like everyone else in my family), but these past few years I've been wanting a major change: a life of minimalism! And while I talked and talked + fantasized about getting rid of all this excess for a couple years, I never actually took action. *sigh*

But that changed last month! Finally, I started selling off the dozens of shoes I've never worn, the books I've read 3x over, the dvd's I've watched a million times, even the records I no longer have time to sit back and enjoy.

I took some time off from our regular EBay listings to focus on liquidating that stuff. And it feels GREAT. Seriously. I don't miss 'em one bit. I just hope whoever acquired them loves and appreciates them : ).

But enough about that! It's back to business over here, and this month Knockout Vintage Clothing is OVERFLOWING with amaaaaaaaaaaazing stuff! What's left of the dresses from the Miss Teen USA stylist's estate are currently for sale, in addition to other great 50s and 80s party dresses for you last minute prom shoppers (and 24 hour party people).

We're trying to sell more 50s dresses again! When Knockout Vintage Clothing launched 9 years ago, that's pretty much all we sold - 40s and 50s pinup style stuff. It's gotten harder to find in good condition since, so we'll just have to search harder : P.

Of course, we'll continue to stock on-trend vintage! We currently have some really cute bandage dresses, 'secretary' dresses, and sun dresses in our new EBay store. ALL of our store items will include free shipping within the USA!

OH, HELLO BLOG!

Sorry I've been neglectful these past few weeks and have hardly posted/commented. I've been super, super busy with Knockout Clothing and am just starting to wind down... for a few days at least!

I've been hemming a bunch of dresses which go on sale later this month, and making my rounds at estate sales. Also went out and bought more (much needed) accessories for styling our shoots. I'm especially excited about the latter, because accessories can make such a huge difference. I've been lazy and haven't put that much effort into styling the shoots, so I'm working to improve this. You can't grow unless you're willing to critique and improve your own work.

Those are pics from a collaboration I did with photographer Emily Rusk (Digital Pixels), Paper Dolls makeup, and models Caitey Sarganis and Erin Gentry. Emily's friend Brian did the art direction too, and did a pretty fine job if I may say so. They were all great to work with, and I look forward to doing it again.

We shot at Turtle Creek park, which is a really beautiful place. It was sooo freezing though! And windy as hell! I felt bad for Erin and Caitey, but they were great sports : ).

THE SADDEST ART OF CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA

"Camille Rose Garcia was born in 1970 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the generic suburbs of Orange County, visiting Disneyland and going to punk shows with the other dissenchanted youth of that era. Her paintings of creepy cartoon children living in wasteland fairy tales are critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias. Creative influences include Phillip K. Dick, William Burroughs, Henry Darger,Walt Disney, as welll as politically aware bands like The Clash and Dead Kennedys. Her recent solo show, Ultraviolenceland, explored ideas of violence and empire.

Her work has appeared in Flaunt Magazine, Rolling Stone, Juxtapoz, and Paper Magazine, among others. She currently lives in Los Angeles." ~ from Camilla Rose Garcia's website.

She's without a doubt my favorite artist, and one I'm hoping will someday take over the world! I'm usually not a big fan of artist/celebrity licensed products, but if she were to branch out into the world of fashion and glamour, you bet I'd LINE UP to buy her stuff. She's already done wallpaper and dolls, so my hopes are pretty high.

I'd love to see her do an environmentally friendly high fashion line. I imagine it'd look much like Galliano's Fall of 2007 collection:

And a mineral makeup collaboration between her and M.A.C. would be splendid! The products could have names like toxic sludge, gangrene, and pharmaceutical blue. Haha.

GOODBYE, SABLE

I was so heartbroken to learn yesterday that Sable Starr (aka Sabel Starr, aka Sable Shields) has left the building. At only 51 years of age she passed away in her Nevada home, defeated by cancer. Like Ron Asheton, Dave Dee, and Lux Interior, she's ditched '09 for the great big rock show in the sky.

Sable was among the most infamous of second wave rock groupies, who followed (and fooled around with) artists such as Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and the New York Dolls. With gal pals Queenie and Lori Ligntning often in tow she hit the Hollywood club scene; becoming a fixture at infamous hot spots such as the 'Riot House', Rodney's English Disco, and the Rainbow. A known rival of Pamela des Barres, she was also a regular feature in the short lived groupie-centric Star Magazine. This led to her catching the eye of a certain Johnny Thunders, who eventually became her boyfriend.

Sable raised hell, rocked out, partied like a rockstar, partied with rockstars, and saw the world; all before the age of 21. But then, while many of her cohorts carried on throughout the 80's and 90's, Sable vanished into obscurity.

Rumors of her fate ranged from the very best to the very worst, and only her closest friends (who've honored her privacy all these years) know the full story. What is known is that she eventually had a son, attended card dealing school, and worked at a casino in Nevada. Whatever the case may be, I hope she was given a good hand in life.

R.I.P. Sable. I always hoped I'd meet you. Maybe someday in another life I will : ).

OVER THE MOON

From her early work with Biba to her latest work with Wunderkind, Sarah Moon captures fashion in a way quite unlike her contemporaries; deceptively simple with blinding precision. Each photo bears a melancholy air; blurred as if filtered through a monsoon, the subject just out of reach a calm after the storm (or perhaps the other way around). No rainbows without rain.

As a fan of Victorian/Edwardian French postcards and boudior photography, I fancy her work in particular because much of it evokes that vibe. Sadly, her presence on the web is rather illusive. She's currently represented by Renate Gallois Montbrun though; click on the link to enjoy a slideshow. In the meantime, enjoy these pics as well.

There's always a handful of pics from each Knockout Clothing shoot that really stand out to me. Here are my faves of the week. I adore working with Melissa Meaow! She danced ballet for 20 years, go-go dances with the Lolli Dollies troupe, throws great parties with the Melissa's Deluxe, is one of the top faces of the Texas alt. modeling and pinup/burlesque scene, and has loads upon loads of other credentials - including an appearance in the upcoming Semi Precious Weapons video for 'rock & roll never looked so beautiful'. The girl knows how to pose, and has such a wide range; from haughty and glamorous to sweet and fun to outright goofy!

But despite all her accomplishments, she isn't the least bit conceited, and is a great person to boot : ).

What's not to love about SuperSuper magazine? Definitive tastemakers for everything cutting edge in the UK, they're a force to be reckoned with. From the collage like covers, outrageous 'clubarazzi' photos, and interviews with the latest and greatest fashion designers, artists, and musicians, each issue is a feast for the eyes (and ears! Sometimes free cd's are included).

I can't wait to get their latest issue, dubbed the 'funk/gothic/tropical' issue. Features include the Horrors, d.i.y. psychedelia, and rats as hats........ hmmm.......ok! Next stop, world domination.

In other news, it's been a long, busy week! I added 20 items to Knockout Clothing on EBay yesterday, including a ton of adoreable 70s dresses! And 30 more items go up Sunday. Then, it's back to altering next months stuff. This morning there were heavy thunderstorms and a lot of rain... but then it got warm. Gotta love Texas weather! I'm hoping it'll stay warm for a few weeks because I'd like to take a trip to the beach asap : ).

Sorry for the lack of bloggage/comments this week! On Monday Melissa, Dylan, and I shot 71 pieces for EBay. My assistant has been busy with school lately, so I've been doing everything myself - cropping and editing pics, taking measurements, etc. etc.

Last night I was up from 11am to 1am doing this, and I still wasn't done! Running a small business is a very time consuming, non-stop labor of love. You really have to DIG what you're doing, because you'll be pretty much married to it.

Tons of great stuff goes up tonight though, which I hope you ladies will love as much as I do. I scored some crazy 80s prom dresses from the estate of a gal who used to work on Miss Teen USA pagents. Hey, just in time for prom! And of course there's plenty of on trend mod, grunge, disco, etc. dresses too.

I have some great interviews and other stuff to blog about as well, so stay tuned!

AN (ALMOST) FAMOUS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RAQUEL REED!

I have two favorite models; Sassoon coifed, Rudi Gernreich clad icon Peggy Moffitt, and the heavily tattooed, teal haired alt. model Raquel Reed! At just 21 years old as of today, this gal's already a force to be reckoned with. She's a makeup artist for M.A.C. cosmetics, an alt. model who often art directs and styles her own shoots, co-owner of the t-shirt line Alumni NYC, and is now branching out into fashion design - her first client being Sarah Hudson of Ultraviolet Sound. I really love her use of bright colors, and Harajuku-esque take on high fashion. Raquel is a star on the make. Mark my words!

THE GENIUS OF STOOPIDGERL

Kim Ripley is a 28 year old Michigan based artist who graduated in '05 with a BFA in fine arts and photography. Armed with an education and plenty of inspiration from her childhood, she began making and selling hand crafted jewelry on Etsy, under her high school nickname StoopidGerl. 2100+ satisfied customers later, StoopidGerl is a full fledged business, and we couldn't be happier about that.

Her designs are whimsical, colorful, highly original, and very well presented. If Hello Kitty and Jack Skellington had babies in the midst of a Dia de los Muertos parade (or candy store), they'd look something like this:

Here's one market that won't let you down! In an age where online retailers and shoppers alike are frustrated by the lack of good quality websites to buy and sell on, Market Publque offer a glimmer of hope.

This newly launched site sells nothing but vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories; and hand selects only trustworthy dealers to do so. Highlights include a sleek, user friendly design with plenty of pictures, interactive comments users can post to listings, a frequently updated blog which regularly spotlights MP dealers, and incredibly cheap listing fees which we dealers love!

In the spirit of new ventures (this blog being among them), I requested an interview with Market Publique co-founder Pamela Castilo, who gladly obliged. Many thanks to Pamela for chatting with us!

MY NAME IS : Pamela Castillo

I LIVE IN : Williamsburg, Brooklyn

I AM : Co-Founder of Market Publique

MARKET PUBLIQUE : Is an online vintage-only marketplace for people to buy, sell and discuss vintage fashion.

IT STARTED BECAUSE : We wanted a place that sold exclusively vintage online and couldn't find it.

HOPEFULLY IT WILL : Bring the vintage community together and foster a positive selling and buying environment.

SO FAR IT'S BEEN : less than a month! But so far so good, and we're grateful for all the support and encouragement we've gotten from the community!

MY FAVORITE MARKET PUBLIQUE SELLERS ARE : This is a toughie, since we approve all of the sellers who sell on Market Publique, you can say they're all our favorites! If I must, must choose, then I love The Frippery because they have everything from a super-collectible Thierry Mugler dress, to adorable ruffled Victor Costa numbers, to affordable Spring and Summer dresses.

I've also been a fan of Le Robo for years, so I love that they are selling on Market Publique now too!

And Chitown Vintage is also another favorite, who always has items that are on-trend, at affordable prices. They have been supporting us since day 1.

But honestly, I love items from all our sellers, and we're so happy they decided to join us and support us.

MY FAVORITE FASHION ERA IS : The 50s. In my eyes, there's nothing more flattering and femenine than a fit-and-flare dress with some high heeled shoes.

MY FAVORITE DESIGNERS ARE : Wow, the list is long, but here goes: Azzedine Alaia, Yves Saint Laurent, Anne Fogarty, Pauline Trigere, Kansai Yamamoto, Erté, Vionnet, Maud Frizon, Charles Jourdan... on and on.

MY FAVORITE SPRING 09 TRENDS ARE : Rompers and more rompers, 90s floral prints, leather shorts, and gauze or silk jumpsuits.

I hope I'll never see _____________ on the runways again! Zoot Suits!

PEOPLE IN MY CITY ARE WEARING : a ton of vintage!

THE NEXT BIG TRENDS WILL BE : Ummm, i'm not a trend forecaster, but if I have to guess... Annie Oakley-style boots, sheer hose, and vintage Japanese fashion like items from Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo, and Yohji Yamamoto.

GETTING HEAVY PLAY ON MY IPOD ARE : The Black Kids, Serge Gainsbourg, and Nous Non Plus (who played at our wedding!)

THE LAST MOVIE I SAW WAS : There's no theater in Williamsburg, so we rarely go to the movies. Instead we watch Netflix on our projector at home. I think the last movie we saw was The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

I LOOK FORWARD TO : Warm weather!

SOME OF MY THOUGHTS ON VINTAGE...

Here's an interview I did for Sarah, a student at Heriot Watt University's School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels, Scotland, who's currently writing her final dissertation on vintage clothing!

" WHAT DO YOU THINK IS A CORRECT DEFINITION OF THE WORD VINTAGE?

The term used to apply to any article of clothing 30 years or older. Then, it became 20 years or older. Now, it's clothing 10 years or older. Basically, nowadays, any previous fashion thats gone out of vouge for several years then resurrected in it's original form is considered vintage.

WHY DO YOU THINK VINTAGE FASHION HAS BECOME SO POPULAR?

More than anything, people are realising that clothes were much better made back then. Even cheap, low end vintage items of yesteryear are as good as high end ready to wear is today - in terms on construction and detailing. 20 years ago the idea of wearing second hand clothing was shameful, but for the most part that stigma is long gone. Now, it makes you a card carrying member of the cool club. Welcome to the hipster revolution.

We're in an age where people are eager to discover and openly express their artistic ideas more than ever before. Bloggers, self produced shows on You Tube channels, crafters, painters, collage artists, graphic designers, musicians, photographers, freelance modeling.... everyone these days seems to have a creative outlet; wether it's a hobby or business. The ever growing demand for vintage is an extension of that, since the scarcity of many vintage items inspires people to dress creatively with it. With vintage, the odds of you 'walking into yourself' in public are pretty slim.

If you know how to shop around, you can get stylish vintage for a fraction of what you'd pay for a new item today. Vintage is a great way to glam up without breaking the bank. Economics are an important factor, especially in todays uncertain times.

Lastly, with an ever growing concern for the envirornment and human rights, buying vintage is an ethical, eco-friendly thing to do.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS CURRENT TREND OF DISPOSABLE FASHION, SOLD BY RETAILERS SUCH AS PRIMARK?

Honestly, most ready to wear of the 60s was a step down in quality from items of previous decades. The same can be said for 70s items when compared to the 60s, 80s items compared to the 70s, and 90s items when compared to the 80s.

We're on the verge of reaching rock bottom in terms of poor quality as an expected average. But once we hit that bottom, things will start to improve again.

DO YOU BELIEVE THE VINTAGE MARKET IS SUSTAINABLE? WILL SOURCES OF VINTAGE CLOTHING RUN OUT, OR JUST KEEP GETTING NEWER?

Back in the 60s and 70s trend setters wore real Victorian clothing. Nowadays, we wear Victorian inspired clothing made in the 60s and 70s, as it's more widely available.

People have always looked to the past for inspiration, so whats new today will be the next generations vintage.

ARE TRENDS/FASHIONS WHICH REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE THE KEY TO SAVING THE PLANET AND REDUCING MASS CONSUMPTION?

No, becuase ultimately progress is made by moving forward, not backward. The key lies within creating new (long lasting) products, technology, and manufacturing methods which have a reduced (or even positive!) envirornmental impact.

Reducing, reusing, and recycling is definately a step in the right direction though!

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR VINTAGE CLOTHING?

Eventually good quality will become the norm again, and once that happens, today's poor quality items will be seen as a collectible novelty. To find something cheaply made that hasn't completely fallen apart will be a scarcity, and therefore valueable in the future. Some of today's collectors seek paper dresses from the 60s. A dress from Forever 21 will be the futures equivalent. "
